Event Description

In 1855, Lola Montez, wildest showgirl of the known world, toured Australia’s goldfields. The scandal is legend. Horsewhipping the editor of the Ballarat Times (for a bad review). Swinging down mine-shafts, champagne in hand. Escaping arrest wearing only jewels. Her erotic Spider Dance was “the most libertinish and indelicate performance given on the public stage” Sydney Morning Herald 1855.
