You are invited to join us for International Women’s Day 2020, on Friday 6 March with special guest speaker, Nova Peris OAM OLY MAICD.
Nova Peris was the first Aboriginal Australian to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games. She is also one of a very few athletes who have represented their country in two different sports; hockey & athletics, and at separate Olympic Games. In 1993 Nova was elected to the Senate for the Northern Territory 2013. She retired prior to general elections 2016. Her aim is to build the foundations for a fairer society for all.
Our International Women's Day event will also announce the winners of the 'Women in Community Life' Awards which are held annually to acknowledge and to celebrate the high achievements and exceptional leadership of Geelong women.
The networking function will begin from 6:00pm with the awards ceremony starting at 6:35pm.

GETTING TO THE EVENT
Address: 110 Victoria Street, North Geelong Vic 3215.
The Geelong Arena within its boundaries has 103 well-lit car parking spaces. There are in excess of 500 spaces on street and in V/Line car parks surrounding the venue also. Multiple accessible parking spaces are available within Arena Baxter Road car park with additional one available within Arena Victoria Street car park. There is also four on street accessible parking spaces at the end of Victoria Street.
There are a number of bus stops located around the Venue on both Baxter road & Victoria Street.
The venue is centrally located adjacent to North Geelong Railway Station (Melbourne-Geelong-Warrnambool line), 100m walk from the platform to the front entrance.
FOOD
There will be a mixture of hot & cold canapes served during the networking function, there will be gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan food options. The venue will have tea, coffee & water available stations throughout the foyer. There will be soft drink and alcoholic beverages available for purchase at the venue café.
ENTERING THE VENUE
The entrance for the event will be via Baxter Rd. The event will be held in the main auditorium with all seating located on the ground floor. There will be way-finding signage set throughout the venue to assist those who have never attended an event here. The venue will also have a number of staff floating throughout the event to provide assistance to anyone who may require it.
INSIDE THE VENUE
The floor inside the venue is flat, with carpet and tiled flooring.
The main auditorium where the ceremony will be held will have dimmed lighting, the venue will have staff on hand to assist people to their seats should they require it.
We cannot guarantee that this event will be scent free.
There are power outlets available in the foyer and elsewhere in the library to charge wheelchairs.
There will not be a cloak room at this event.
LANGUAGE
There is no audio loop available.
QUIET AREA
There will be a quiet space available in the foyer meeting room, this space will be clearly signed. The quiet area will be a quieter space than the entrance foyer or performance space.
TOILETS
There is Male & Female toilets as well as a wheelchair accessible gender neutral toilet located in the ground floor foyer. In addition there will be a gender neutral toilet available on level 1, accessed via the stairs in the foyer.
